At Economic Research Guardian, Special Issues are managed with the same rigorous editorial oversight and peer review process as regular submissions. However, Special Issues are typically curated around a specific theme and/or conference, and the process ensures that the contributions are of the highest academic quality.
Guest Editors: for Special Issues, external Guest Editors may be appointed to curate the content and ensure the thematic integrity of the issue. The process for appointing Guest Editors and defining their roles is as follows:
  • appointment: Guest Editors are selected based on their expertise and reputation in the specific topic or theme of the Special Issue. The Editor-in-Chief and the editorial board may invite scholars who have a track record of research in the area to serve as Guest Editors;
  • roles and Responsibilities: Guest Editors are responsible for soliciting and curating submissions, inviting potential authors, and managing the overall thematic structure of the Special Issue. Guest Editors may not be involved in the review or editorial decision-making process for manuscripts they have authored, ensuring impartiality. While Guest Editors play a critical role in managing the special issue’s submissions, the peer review process itself is overseen by the Editor-in-Chief or an independent member of the editorial board to avoid conflicts of interest;
  • affiliations: Guest Editors are typically affiliated with academic institutions, research organizations, or other reputable entities. Their affiliation is disclosed in the Special Issue to ensure transparency. However, it is essential that Guest Editors do not have a direct connection to any manuscripts they have contributed to, in order to maintain objectivity in the review process.
Editorial Oversight: the Editor-in-Chief retains the ultimate responsibility for the editorial decisions concerning manuscripts submitted for Special Issues. For each Special Issue, a dedicated team of editors may be involved in overseeing the process, but all decisions are made under the guidance of the Editor-in-Chief to maintain the journal's academic integrity.
Peer Review Process: manuscripts submitted for Special Issues undergo the same double-blind peer review process as regular submissions. This ensures impartiality, with both authors and reviewers remaining anonymous. The peer review process includes the following steps:
  • selection of reviewers: reviewers are selected based on their expertise in the Special Issue’s theme. Reviewers may be internal or external to the editorial board;
  • review timelines: The review process is generally completed within a month, with extensions granted if necessary. Authors are notified promptly in such cases;
  • decision: After receiving feedback from reviewers, the final editorial decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief. Authors will be informed whether their manuscript is accepted, requires revisions, or is rejected.
